Chris Hemsworth offered role of Mitch Rapp in American Assassin

After months of speculation and rumor about the possibility of a movie based on one of the Vince Flynn novels, things are starting to come together.  The movie will be American Assassin, chronologically the first in the Mitch Rapp series.  American Assassin charts Mitch Rapp’s entry to the CIA, his training under Stan Hurley (whos role has been offered to Bruce Willis) and his first mission.

It was reported today that Chris Hemsworth has been offered the leading role of Mitch Rapp.

Australian Actor Chris Hemsworth is no stranger to blockbuster movies, most famous for his lead role of Thor in the Thor Films and Avengers Assemble.  He also starred in Snow White and the Huntsman as the Huntsman.  Despite his lead role in these fantasy films, he’s not an unlikely star for American Assassin, in Red Dawn an action packed film he played the leader of the Wolverines.

It’s reported that Chris Hemsworth has been offered $10 million for the role.  A role which I’m sure Vince Flynn fans will be hoping is the first of a series of films.

So the starring roles are rapidly filling for American Assassin, do you think these are good choices?  Who would you pick?  The role of Irene Kennedy is yet to be announced, who would you select as the female lead?  Leave a comment!

The Last Man

The Last Man

A pulse-pounding thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon Vince Flynn, as Mitch Rapp heads to Afghanistan to track down a missing CIA agent.

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

The Last Man takes Mitch Rapp back to the here and now, Vince Flynn’s last couple of books have been prequels, uncovering the story of how Rapp was recurited to the CIA, but now we are back to the modern day Mitch Rapp as he attempts to keep the USA and the world safe once again.

The Last Man will be released on October 16th 2012

Kill Shot

Vince Flynn has just announced Kill Shot the latest title in the Mitch Rapp series.  This title will follow on from American Assassin filling in the backstory of how Mitch Rapp came to be Americas foremost counter terrorism agent.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn is back with another nail-biting political thriller that follows the young Mitch Rapp on a deadly mission to hunt down the men responsible for the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack.

For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard.

Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes. The door to the hotel room is kicked open and gunfire erupts all around Rapp. In an instant the hunter has become the hunted. Rapp is left wounded and must flee for his life.

The next morning, the news breaks in Washington that Libya’s Oil Minister has been killed along with three innocent civilians and four unidentified men. The French authorities are certain that the gunman is wounded and on the loose in Paris. As the finger pointing begins, Rapp’s handlers have only one choice—deny any responsibility for the incident and pray that their newest secret weapon stays that way, avoiding capture and dying quietly. One person in the group, however, is not prone to leaving things to chance. Rapp has become a liability, and he absolutely cannot be allowed to be taken alive by the French authorities. But it will soon become clear that nothing is more dangerous than a wounded and cornered Mitch Rapp.

Vince Flynn to launch new series with Brian Haig

Vince Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Pursuit of Honor and the soon to be released American Assassin (October 12, 2010), has signed a new two book deal with Atria Books and Pocket Books to launch a brand new series featuring a New York City based anti-terror operation written in collaboration with writer and retired US Army lieutenant colonel Brian Haig.

“This is a story that I have wanted to tell for many years and teaming up with Brian Haig will afford me the opportunity to pursue this without keeping readers waiting for my next Mitch Rapp novel,” Flynn said, “I’ve been a fan of Brian’s writing since his first book Secret Sanction.  I think he’s one of the best story tellers in America today, and I’m really excited to join forces with him on this exciting project.”

Haig spent 22 years on active duty before retiring in 1997 and going into private business.  His final four years on active duty were as the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, preparing speeches, briefings, public statements, and congressional testimonies, as well as advising the Chairman on strategic, global and Asian regional issues.  He is the author of eight novels, including Capitol Game which will be released by Grand Central Publishing on August 12.

Details of the new series were released in a  joint announcement made today by Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books and Washington Square Press and Louise Burke, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Gallery, Threshold and Pocket. Emily Bestler, Vice-President and Executive Editorial Director of Atria, acquired World, Audio Book Club, Large Print, First Serial and Electronic Rights to Flynn’s new series from Sloan Harris at ICM.  Pocket Books will be the paperback publisher of both books, which will also be available from Simon & Schuster Audio.

“Fans of Vince Flynn will get the same explosive action, heart-pounding excitement and frightening accuracy that they’ve grown to expect from the Mitch Rapp series,” Bestler said, “Vince had a certain amount of apprehension about dividing his time, until he found out that Brian was interested.  His long standing admiration of Haig’s work, and a shared creative vision for this new venture made it the perfect fit.”

Flynn, who in October will release his twelfth novel, the eleventh featuring counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, has hit the New York Times bestseller list for each book he’s ever written, reaching as high as #1.  He has sold over 12.5 million copies in the United States plus millions more in the 20 international markets that carry his books.

Atria Books is the publishing home of many major bestselling authors including Vince Flynn, T.D. Jakes,  Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Weiner, Zane, and Rhonda Byrne, author of the international bestselling phenomenon The Secret and the forthcoming The Power.

American Assassin Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn returns with yet another explosive thriller, introducing the young Mitch Rapp, as he takes on his first assignment.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist’s worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world … and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat, partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America’s shores. Stansfield directs his protégée, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague, Stan Hurley, to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command — men who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy’s doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves onto Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn’t know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

As action-packed, fast-paced, and brutally realistic as it gets, Flynn’s latest page-turner shows readers how it all began. Behind the steely gaze of the nation’s ultimate hero is a young man primed to become an American Assassin.

Jennifer Aniston turns down role in Consent to Kill Movie
