Gossip Cop has reported that Jennifer Aniston was linked to the Consent to Kill movie to play the female lead. The tabloids are always keen to spread rumours regarding Jennifer and Gerard Butler (who is in the running to play Mitch Rapp) so perhaps it was only natural her name came up. An insider for the tab said that “Jen was flattered but said ‘no thanks,”

In Vince Flynn’s latest fan newsletter (sign up at his official site Vinceflynn.com) he has cast doubt over the Movie adaptation of Consent to Kill.
CBS Films took a big hit with their first major release Extraordinary Measures. Their second film starring J- Lo didn’t bomb, but it didn’t do great either. All of this has unfortunately complicated the decision process over green lighting Consent to Kill. Three months ago, it looked like we were on the verge of finally getting it done. We had a slew of great male and female actors who were extremely interested in signing on, Antoine Fuqua had been attached as director and everyone loved the script. Since then, CBS has gotten skittish over the budget and have begun to look for co-financing, which has put the project in a more complicated state. One of the major studios in Hollywood has offered to take the entire project over, increase the budget and turn it into a summer tent pole movie. They’ve floated Christian Bale as the lead, which is an extremely interesting choice considering what happens to Mitch Rapp in Consent to Kill. While this has been an extremely frustrating few months, I have once again realized just how hard it is to get a movie made. My esteem for the producers Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler has grown immensely. Their patience and dogged determination amazes me. It is my hope that we will know one way or another by the end of June.
This raises several interesting points. although CBS are looking for co-financing deals it seems promising that another studio is interested in the project, this must mean that the film industry have faith in the Mitch Rapp franchise!
Also Christian Bale as Mitch Rapp is an interesting choice, he started in several big budget film franchises including Terminator and Batman.
Fingers crossed CBS will sort out these issues soon, and production can begin!
CBS Consumer Products (a licensing arm of CBS films) have revealed on their site here that the first Vince Flynn Film Consent to Kill will get a Summer 2011 Theatrical Release.
CBS don’t give much more information regarding the film and the plot. They describe the Mitch Rapp series as
Based on Vince Flynn’s New York Times bestselling book series, the action-thriller movie franchise from CBS Films features CIA counterterrorism expert Mitch Rapp whose bold actions have saved the lives of countless Americans. His battles for peace and freedom have made him a hero to many, and an enemy to countless more.
Also they quote the interesting statistics that 11 “Mitch Rapp” books have been sold in the US alone and the books are distributed in 18 countries.
Lets cross our fingers that they stick to a Summer 2011 release and that we can soon enjoy Mitch Rapp on the Big Screen!!!
Things have moved forward with the Consent to Kill Movie. We previously wrote that Antonie Fuqua is to direct the film. Deadline.com have now announced that CBS films have narrowed the Mitch Rapp possibles down to three – Gerard Butler, Colin Farrell and Matthew Fox.
Gerard Butler is the lead runner to play Mitch Rapp, he is currently in The Bounty Hunter which has just been released in cinemas and is best known for his action role in 300.
Colin Farrell is next up. Having previously starred in action films such as SWAT and Miami Vice he is familiar with the role and is said to have impressed CBS Films CEO Amy Baer from his work in SWAT which she supervised while at Columbia Pictures.
Matthew Fox is said to be the surprise in the trio, as an actor he has never headlined a film this large with franchise potential, yet popular through the TV show Lost which will soon end freeing him for summer shooting. He is also said to be the actor pursuing the role the most!
CBS Films execs are said to have had conversations with reps of actors that include Keanu Reeves, Eric Bana and Jon Hamm but the focus is on Butler, Farrell and Fox
Who do you think should play Mitch Rapp, one of the above, or did you picture a completely different choice? Leave a comment and let us know!
According to Variety Magazine CBS studios have signed Antonie Fuqua to direct the first Vince Flynn film which will be Consent to Kill.
Antoine Fuqua is best known for having directed Training Day.
Consent to Kill is an interesting first choice of book to turn into a film. It is not the first Mitch Rapp adventure so it is expected that screenwriter Jonathan Lenkin will make significant plot changes.
The orginal books teaser reads as…
For years, Mitch Rapp’s bold actions have saved the lives of thousands. He has killed with impunity, tortured to avert disaster, and shown he will do whatever it takes to win the War on Terror. He has become a hero to many – and an enemy to countless more. Now, the powerful father of a dead terrorist demands vengeance in its simplest form: an eye for an eye. He wants Rapp dead – and his hate-filled plea has found sympathetic ears. In the tangled world of espionage, there are those, even among America’s allies, who feel Rapp has grown too effective. They’ve been looking for a chance to eliminate America’s No 1 counterterrorism operative – and now their time has come. Rapp must use all his skill and ruthless determination to save himself before he can turn his fury on those who have dared betray him.
